South Korea strengthens health cooperation with APAC

The country reaffirmed its partnerships with Japan, Australia, and Indonesia.

South Korea’s Health and Welfare minister, Cho KyooHong has held bilateral meetings with Japan, Australia, and Indonesia during the 77th World Health Assembly by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to advance healthcare cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), Cho met with Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Health, Labour, and Welfare. Shiozaki Akihisa, to discuss ways to enhance the trilateral cooperation between South Korea, Japan, and China, and strengthen cooperation in the bio sector. 

Meanwhile, Cho and Mark Butler, Australia’s Health and Aged Care Minister, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on health cooperation to collaborate on healthcare, mental health, and ageing policies.

Furthermore, he shared with Indonesian Health Minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, the achievements of bilateral cooperation in pharmaceutical and medical services, and personnel exchanges in the health sector, agreeing to further develop these initiatives. 

"Through our participation in the World Health Assembly, we were able to reaffirm the commitment of Member States to ensure the right to health for all.” Cho said.

"As a key global player, the Korean government will continue to actively participate in international cooperation to address health inequalities,” Cho added.
