South Korea revises healthcare data standards for interoperability
It will promote interoperability of data in its healthcare systems.
South Korean government said it revised its standards for healthcare data to promote interoperability of its healthcare institutions.
Here are the revisions:
Firstly, the core information including patients, medical institutions, and medical services were classified into 77 data elements under 14 data classes, and defined the value sets* for each element to assign “Core data for interoperability, KR CDI”.
Core data for interoperability, KR CDI define the standards of key medical data that are essential in the interoperability of healthcare data in Korea among medical institutions, public organizations, the private sector, and patients.
The “Standards on the Exchange of Core Data for Interoperability” lists specific standards for technical exchange methods, including data format and standards to allow “Core data for interoperability, KR CDI” to be exchanged based on HL7 FHIR*.
Shim Eun-hye Director of the Division of Healthcare Data Development at the Ministry of Health and Welfare said they improved standard ecosystems to enhance their residents’ access to medical services.
