This follows an earlier approval of $128.89m for five fast-tracked projects.

The Pandemic Fund’s Governing Board has approved $418m in grants as part of its second funding round to enhance pandemic preparedness and response capabilities in 40 countries across six regions.

The new grants will provide investments aimed towards disease surveillance, early warning systems, laboratory upgrades, and health workforce development.

This latest allocation follows an earlier approval of $128.89m directed towards five fast-tracked projects supporting 10 countries affected by the mpox Public Health Emergency of International Concern, bringing the total funding under this round to $547m.

Over half of the funds are allocated to sub-Saharan Africa, the region with the highest demand for the grants. Furthermore, more than 74% of the funded projects will benefit low- and lower-middle-income countries.
