NUH to establish health centre for early cancer detection in 2025

The centre will integrate AI and advanced technology into its services.

The National University Hospital (NUH) announced its plans to establish the National University Centre for Digestive Health in the first half of 2025 for early cancer detection.

The centre will focus on elevating standards in early detection, precise diagnosis, treatment, and digestive illness prevention.

The centre will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology into its services, including radiology and diagnostics, gastroenterology, hepatology, surgery, and therapeutic procedures.

In addition, the centre aims to develop a more accurate blood-based diagnostic test for identifying individuals at high risk of stomach cancer, whilst developing novel biomarkers for early colorectal cancer detection.

Gastrointestinal and liver cancer rank amongst the top causes of cancer-related deaths, NUH said, citing data from the Singapore Cancer Registry Annual Report 2021.
