New $219m Mt Barker Hospital to triple capacity by 2027

The majority of its new spaces will feature single rooms with private ensuites.

A $219m (A$320m) hospital development in South Australia is set to replace the existing Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, tripling its capacity from 34 to 102 beds by 2027.

The majority of the new spaces will feature single rooms with private ensuites. The expanded facility will include specialist maternity, paediatrics, rehabilitation, medical, surgical, and palliative care beds.

In addition, the development will support the hospital’s upgraded emergency department, which increased from five bays to 17 in June 2023.

Site preparations for the new hospital are expected to begin later this year, with construction scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
