MOH opens industry consultation for new not-for-profit private acute hospital model

The new model will provide more support to Singapore citizens, especially the ageing group.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has sent an invitation to private healthcare operators to partake in an industry consultation for a brand-new not-for-profit private acute hospital model.

The proposed private acute hospital model aims to provide more options for Singaporeans in need of support for their healthcare. It will include the following features:

  • Not-for-profit, wherein earnings are returned to the hospital and other not-for-profit activities
  • Provision of appropriate and affordable care to patients, prioritising cost efficiency and value
  • Focus falling exclusively on Singapore citizens
  • Provision of subsidised acute bed capacity

The latter feature is seen as a huge priority, since acute hospital bed capacity for both public and private sectors has been critical to the growing demand for healthcare services, due to Singapore’s ageing population.

Participants in the consultation will be open to providing feedback on the initial acute hospital requirements and suggestions as to how key goals for the new model can be accomplished.

Registration will close on 21 January 2024. The consultation will last from January to April 2024.
