Malaysia’s Island Hospital to expand with $426.3m integrated medical hub

The hub will feature over 1,000 beds and a medical tourism-focused hotel.

Malaysia’s Island Hospital is set to establish an integrated medical hub with a development value of $426.3m (RM2b), including a medical tourism-focused hotel.

Upon completion, Island Medical City will feature more than 1,000 beds and over 300 medical suites.

Moreover, the hub will offer enhanced surgical capacity, expanded centres of excellence, and an increased focus on ambulatory care.

“As part of our initiatives to propel Malaysia into the global medical tourism limelight, we are focused on cultivating a seamless patient ecosystem that enhances individual health,” Island Hospital chief of staff, Lim Kooi Ling, said.

Meanwhile, Island Hospital has invested in an electronic medical records (EMR) system and the VESALIUS.m app to facilitate patient care and engagement.

According to Lim, the app features a real-time queue tracker and access to the hospital’s programmes and health screening packages.

“All these can help to cultivate awareness for healthy lifestyles and ultimately reduce the demand for more acute medical interventions,” Lim added.
