Philippines’ Makati Medical Centre has completed its first implantation of a leadless pacemaker for arrhythmia interventions.

The technology integrates the entire system directly into the right ventricle of the heart, eliminating the need for a transvenous approach that involves wires and a subcutaneous pocket for the device.

According to the hospital, this reduces risks such as lead displacement, pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade, lead fractures, and infections.

The procedure was carried out by Anthony King Jr. and his team on a female patient who presented with a high-grade atrioventricular block following bypass surgery.
