Launceston General Hospital to build $10m helipad for emergency transit

At present, an aerobridge has been installed for rapid access to LGH’s medical services.

Australia’s Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is set to establish a $10m (A$15m) helipad atop the facility’s Cleveland St car park.

The new helipad aligns with Tasmania’s emergency medical response protocol, enabling urgent aeromedical patient transport to and from the hospital. 

Meanwhile, an aerobridge has been installed which will allow rapid patient transit to and from the helipad and medical services inside LGH such as the emergency department, intensive care units, and operating theatres.

“Delivering better health outcomes for Tasmanians is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future and this is another significant step in the right direction,” Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said.

“Upon completion, this new helipad will ensure patients in need of critical and life-saving medical intervention can be transported safely and efficiently to the LGH,” Barnett added.
