Indonesia’s Airlangga University Hospital inks cooperation agreement with Singapore's Icon Cancer Center

Icon Cancer Center Singapore is part of Icon Group, the largest dedicated cancer care provider in Australia. 

Airlangga University Hospital (RSUA) in Indonesia has inked a cooperation agreement with Icon Cancer Centre Singapore for a medical exchange program aimed at advancing cancer treatments and research between the two medical institutions.

The collaboration allows cancer specialists from the Singapore institution to establish relations with doctors in RSUA where both parties can learn about the management of cancer patients in these two Southeast Asian nations, according to an announcement on Monday.

RSUA aims to propose an integrated service system for cancer treatment that will allow cancer patients to be treated by doctors from multiple disciplines.

The collaboration is also expected to contribute to the efforts of the Indonesian government to promote health tourism in the country.

“So many Indonesians go to Singapore for treatment who can be referred to RSUA for follow-up. Likewise, there are patients seeking treatment in Singapore for routine control, which could be treated at Airlangga Hospital,” said RSUA Hospital Director Prof. Nasronudin.

He said the partnership will pave the way for a new era for the medical institution, being the first-ever hospital in Indonesia to cooperate with Icon Cancer Centre Singapore – the Singapore unit of Icon Group which is the largest dedicated cancer care provider in Australia. 

The group also has a presence in New Zealand as well as mainland China and Hong Kong.

Icon Cancer Centre chief executive Serena Wee Hui Yan said RSUA was chosen as their partner due to the quality of services it provides.
