India’s NHA and IIT Kanpur to develop platform for AI in healthcare

Data collected under the ABDM will be used to establish a public benchmark for AI models.

India’s National Health Authority (NHA) and IIT Kanpur have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a platform under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) for comparing and validating AI models in healthcare.

Through this collaboration, IIT Kanpur will develop a federated learning platform, which will later be operated and governed by the NHA.

In a statement, Union Health Secretary Shri Apurva Chandra said that data collected under the ABDM will be used to establish a public benchmark for AI models to help quantify and diagnose diseases.

“One of the biggest issues related to AI models in the healthcare sector is the availability and efficacy of disease diagnosis data which will be tackled by this collaboration,” Chadra added.

The MoU was signed by L. S. Changsan, additional secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and CEO of NHA, and Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur.
