India pushes strengthened healthcare coverage for eligible beneficiaries

The health minister aims to simplify the Ayushman card creation process through a bottom-up approach.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri JP Nadda has urged for better healthcare coverage amidst reviewing the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) with senior officials of the National Health Authority (NHA).

According to Nadda, coordination with Indian states is needed to ensure that the associated challenges hampering PMJAY’s effective implementation are quickly resolved.

To achieve this, he has directed the NHA to engage and coordinate with the states regularly to understand in-depth the issues at hand.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Minister has vouched for the adoption of a bottom-up approach to strengthen and expand the Ayushman card creation of eligible beneficiaries, particularly in urban areas and metropolitan cities.

“Let us keep our systems flexible and agile to ensure the enrolment process”, Nadda said.

Moreover, he mentioned the significance of employing smart technology tools for a direct connection with beneficiaries that allows them to share their hospitalisation and treatment experiences.

“This will help us improve the delivery of our healthcare services,” Nadda added.
