Hospital bed usage in Selangor down 50% due to vaccinations

Operation Surge Capacity helped reduce the usage from 130% to 80%.

The number of hospital beds used for COVID-19 cases in Selangor has gone to 3,567 on 31 August, a 50% decrease from 8,549 on 5 August. The event coincided with the increase of vaccinations in the Klang Valley over the past few months through Operation Surge Capacity.

In a press conference, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said Operation Surge Capacity is handing over 20,000 Sinovac doses to the Penang government to help ramp up vaccination efforts.

He added that they are ready to hand over more vaccines if needed. However, the health ministry reassured Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow that the vaccine supply in the state will be stable.

Aside from the 20,000 doses, Selangor will lend 200,000 vaccine doses to Penang to fill the shortages caused by the supply disruption of Pfizer vaccines, which the immunization task force will return upon restoration of vaccine supplies.
