EGH Campus in Bedok North to offer services before 2030 completion

Services, such as teleconsulting and remote monitoring, are expected to start by 2026.

The Eastern General Hospital (EGH) Campus is set to operate virtual wards before its completion to support Changi General Hospital’s (CGH) challenge with capacity and rising healthcare needs in the Eastern region.

In its groundbreaking ceremony, the Minister of Health, Ong Ye Kung, mentioned that these services, including teleconsultations and remote monitoring, are intended to start around 2026.

“Mobile Inpatient Care, or MIC@Home – in SingHealth it is called SingHealth@Home” – in the East will be a combined effort between CGH and EGH,” Ong said.

Meanwhile, the EGH campus is set to operate with 1,400 beds upon its expected completion by 2030.

Ong mentioned that it will be a more “pandemic-ready hospital”, with wards that can be converted for isolation use,  whilst accommodating the need for bed surges during a pandemic.

Moreover, the team at EGH is working on developing wearable sensors to make teleconsultations more effective, whilst training its personnel for telemedicine purposes.
