China Medical University Hospital inks partnership with Google Cloud for smart healthcare

Both parties will use the large language model Med-PaLM 2, recommended by professionals.

China Medical University Hospital (CMUH), Taiwan has partnered with the generative AI technology of Google Cloud for the development of a comprehensive “AI-assisted Physician” system.

Under the collaboration, both entities will utilise large language models and their accompanying technology, including MedLM, to support healthcare professionals in disease diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, and medical research.

CMUH and Google Cloud will operate assistive tools, including “Customised Cancer Treatment Guidelines” and “Cancer Therapy Q&As”, for precise cancer treatment and prompt data gathering. These tools can assist professionals in the development of cancer treatment plans, procurement of treatment-related information, and provision of patient inquiries.

The collaboration will also involve Med-PaLM 2, due to its 85% rating on MedQA-USMLE (US Medical Licensing Examination).

“We are excited about this collaboration, which positions smart hospitals in Taiwan at the forefront of providing more precision- and safety-oriented support to healthcare professionals and patients alike,” Prof. Der-Yang Cho, Superintendent of CMUH, said.

CMUH is one of the first university hospitals in Asia to utilise MedLM cloud technology. With Google Cloud, the institution aims to elevate AI innovation in the healthcare system of Taiwan.
