Australia’s Cairns Hospital opens expanded emergency department

The upgraded facility includes additional bed capacity and a dedicated X-ray suite.

The Cairns Hospital in Australia has opened its expanded emergency department (ED), including six additional beds, upgraded resuscitation bays, and a family room.

The new ED also features more acute care rooms, a dedicated X-ray suite, and an improved waiting area for patients and their families.

Moreover, it is expected to support 43 new health jobs, including positions for nurses, doctors, radiographers, and support staff.

Meanwhile, this project is part of a broader investment by the government in Cairns' health infrastructure, including a $165m (A$250m) hospital expansion and an initial $40m (A$60m) funding in the Cairns Health and Innovation Centre.
