Australia to unveil $39m research translation centre at St. Vincent’s Hospital
Its key features include specialised 3D printing and clinical simulation labs.
Australia is set to launch a $39m (A$60m) biomedical engineering research translation centre at the St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Scheduled to open in 2025, the upcoming Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) will feature specialised 3D printing and clinical simulation laboratories and insulated rooms for developing sensitive hearing and vision technologies.
The centre will also provide engineering workshops for medical device prototypes and robotics, as well as an education centre for healthcare workers’ training.
According to the government, the facility will focus on early intervention and prevention.
Furthermore, it aims to tackle health challenges and chronic illnesses through treatments and technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), implantable digital devices, and regenerative medicine.
