Australia to open $692m public hospital for maternal and paediatric care
The facility will integrate with the existing Mater Private Hospital Springfield.
A new $692m (A$1b) public hospital is expected to open in 2026, providing maternity and paediatric care to the Greater Springfield area in Australia.
The new maternity service will feature six birthing suites, two birthing pools, 16 neonatal special care cots, and a pregnancy assessment centre.
Meanwhile, the upcoming facility will be integrated with the existing Mater Private Hospital Springfield and will include a combined total of 228 beds, an emergency department, an intensive care unit, and specialist services.
The public hospital is part of a public-private partnership between Mater and the government aimed at expanding healthcare services in the growing Western Corridor community.
