Australia forms new advisory body to guide the medical workforce

It will oversee the implementation of the National Medical Workforce Strategy.

The Australian government has established the Medical Workforce Advisory Collaboration (MWAC) body to guide the sector’s priorities, including supply and demand, distribution, and workforce capability and support.

The MWAC will also oversee the ongoing implementation of the National Medical Workforce Strategy 2021–2031.

Additionally, the body will aid the government in reviewing workforce issues independently.

The MWAC’s membership includes Commonwealth, state and territory health departments, specialist medical colleges, worker representatives, peak bodies, regulatory organisations, and consumers.
