ANSTO unveils project for enhanced radiology services in APAC

The project has received funding of $866k (AU$1.3m) from the IAEA.

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) has announced the launch of a patient-care project to enhance radiology services in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

The project, which has received funding of $866k (AU$1.3m) from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), will focus on improving the quality and safety of diagnostic and interventional radiology by strengthening the clinical role of radiology medical physicists.

Meanwhile, the new project will contribute to the IAEA’s initiative, “Rays of Hope," aimed to provide access to diagnosis and treatment of cancer using radiation medicine to low- and middle-income countries.

Moreover, the initiative will focus on bridging the gap in radiotherapy facilities whilst increasing capacity building in radiation oncology, and facilitating cooperation in research, quality assurance, training, and radiotherapy delivery.
