ADB approves $30m grant to boost Tajikistan’s maternal and child healthcare

The funding supports the construction of three hospitals in Ayni, Dangara, and Darvoz.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has greenlighted a $30m grant to improve Tajikistan's maternal and child healthcare services, supplementing an ongoing sovereign project launched in 2018.

The grant supports the construction of a 40-bed maternity hospital in Ayni, an 80-bed maternity hospital in Dangara, and a 100-bed central district hospital in Darvoz.

The bank stated that these facilities will have energy-efficient medical, heating, and cooling technologies.

The project will also introduce a digital asset management system, OpenMEDIS, for the effective management and maintenance of medical equipment.

Moreover, the project will focus on strengthening the management and training of health workers, refining tools and processes for perinatal services, and piloting case-based financing to boost the efficiency of hospital funding mechanisms.
