Wanda Group forays into healthcare with new US hospital partnership

It will build international centres in top-tier cities.

Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group has stepped into the country's burgeoning healthcare sector through a new partnership with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre (UPMC).

The partnership will jointly build international hospitals in top-tier cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu.

The Chengdu Hospital project will be named Wanda UPMC International Hospital. It will be built by Wanda, while UPMC will provide hospital management and technology.

The partnership comes amidst burgeoning domestic demand for better healthcare services, and is in line with China's aggressive hospital reform.

"Setting up a network of private hospitals in China can keep Chinese patients in their own country and attract international patients who live in nearby countries,” said Bruno Gridelli, executive vice-president of UPMC International.
