South Korea kicks off virtual exhibition for healthcare firms

Around 500 overseas buyers and 200 local firms plan to join the event.

South Korea has kicked off Global Medical Equipment Plaza Online (GMEP) 2021, a virtual trade exhibition for healthcare businesses to beef up the exports of biohealth products amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Yonhap reported.

Around 500 overseas buyers plan to participate in the exhibition, which doubled from the previous year's event, according to the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). The virtual trade meeting will run through March 26.

Some 200 South Korean healthcare companies will also join the event.

"The pandemic gave an opportunity for South Korea's medical instrument industry to leap a step forward," KOTRA said in a statement.
