Asia's medical healthcare M&A deals hit US$2.1b in 1Q2017

There were 29 deals transacted.

Medical healthcare's 2016 M&A is the highest on Mergermarket's record. A total of US$17.2b deals were closed during the full year 2016, following a five-year consecutive increases. 1Q2017 saw US$2.1b worth of transactions, with 29 deals. This is the second highest first quarter based on deal count.

Mergermarket said that in Australasia, deals hit US$5.5b with 119 transactions since January 2014, but activities have cooled down since then year-on-year. 1Q2017 started off with US$331m with 8 deals--the second highes first quarter deal count.

Between April 2016 and March 2017, Mergermarket reported and aggregated a total of 110 companies for sale under Hospital Management sector in Asia-Pacific region.

There were 44 cross-border deals amounting to US$2.9b and 442 domestic M&A deals amounting to US$38.1b.
