Chart of the Week: Check out Vietnam’s skyrocketing medical costs
Out-of-pocket spending is dominating healthcare financing.
A looming hike in the medical costs in Vietnam will potentially make healthcare access in the country even hazier.
According to a report by BMI Research, these repercussions are unlikely to be fully alleviated by the country's universal healthcare programme due to limits in coverage and reimbursement levels.
BMI Research adds that this has also resulted in out of pocket spending being the dominant source of healthcare financing.
“The price rises will bring some upside to medical device producers and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Vietnam's public hospitals will be increasing the prices of approximately 1,900 different services and products in March 2016,” BMI Research said.
“While the average increase is expected to be approximately 30%, local news sources have reported that some items will see a doubling of their price,” BMI Research added.
