Southern Medicare elevates healthcare for community betterment

Its hospital Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre has undergone several improvements to promote better patient care.

Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre (SKSMC) is a tertiary healthcare provider strategically located in the heart of Royal City of Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan. Managed by Southern Medicare, the 9-storey hospital offers comprehensive, high quality and affordable specialised healthcare services with a top-notch medical team and dedicated senior management.

It is equipped with 232 beds, and its centres of excellence comprises the Cancer Centre, Hand Unit, Heart Centre, and Stroke Centre. Its recent accreditation also stands as a testament to its ongoing systematic improvement in the organisation’s performance and the outcomes of care.

This has been highlighted through several improvements made in the hospital. This includes the recent addition of Klang's first outdoor escalator at SKSMC, which reflects the hospital's dedication to enhancing patient comfort and accessibility. Prior to the building of the outdoor escalator, both patients and visitors had to rely on a staircase to enter the hospital’s premises since the hospital was established in 1999.

SKSMC is also the first and only provider in Klang to have a dedicated 24-hour Stroke Centre. This specialised centre is designed to deliver expert in-hospital diagnosis and swift treatment decision-making for acute strokes, ensuring that patients receive crucial interventions within 60 minutes of their arrival at the Accident & Emergency department.

The centre has a multidisciplinary team, which consists of a consultant neurologist, consultant neurosurgeon, consultant emergency physician, consultant cardiologist, physiotherapist, and dietitian.

Meanwhile, as part of SKSMC’s ongoing commitment to patient comfort and well-being, it has recently refurbished the area to provide ease to their patients and visitors during emergency treatment. The Emergency Department is well-equipped with medical equipment and resuscitative items ensuring prompt and effective responses to critical situations. It is also supported by frontline workers including resident medical officers, nurses, and other support teams.

The developments made at SKSMC and how it translated into better patient care has been acknowledged by the Healthcare Asia Awards 2024, as it secures the Facilities Improvement Initiative of the Year - Malaysia and the Most Improved Community Hospital of the Year - Malaysia category wins.

The prestigious awards programme recognises exceptional healthcare providers that have redefined the standards of healthcare through their unwavering dedication to innovation, setting of new industry benchmarks, and substantial contributions to their communities.
