Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi reaches milestones in digital journey

It highlights technology and development with the community amongst its key successes.

“Technology, networking, and our hospital development together with the community is our key success."

These are the words Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi Chairman Satit Viddayakorn said that have continued to drive the hospital towards delivering the utmost care for patients since its establishment in December 2019.

From day one, the hospital has implemented a fully integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system with structured data across OPD, IPD, and ancillary support services. It highlights electronic medical documents with structured data and also supports CDSS.

Meanwhile, Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi also pursued an HIMSS EMRAM stage 6 accreditation in October 2022. This comes amidst the hospital’s belief that robust IT systems are fundamental in providing high-quality care.

Since then, it has critically examined its pharmacy workflows. It has been able to identify through a Root Cause Analysis that pharmacy staff had ceased using QR code scanners due to device inconvenience and patient volumes during COVID-19 pandemic from January 2021 to April 2022.

As such, the hospital’s IT started developing the “Med Shelf application” by releasing a prototype and improving the software following feedback from users iteratively. It provided double verification between the QR code on the package and the medicine container, which proved to be simple yet efficient, resulting in a gradual reduction in pre-dispensing errors in October 2022.

In highlighting its dedication to a holistic care journey, Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi has also streamlined its processes by integrating with third-party insurance using APIs and leveraging health information exchange technologies, effectively reducing manual key-in and waiting time processes from an hour or two to around 30 minutes.

The hospital’s milestones have caught the attention of the Healthcare Asia Awards 2024, as it won the Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year - Thailand category.

“The highest HIMSS EMRAM achievement has confirmed that our hospital has truly transformed into a digital hospital and guarantees how effectively we are utilising data and information to improve clinical and non-clinical performance, as well as patient safety and satisfaction,” Managing Director of the company, Krittavith Lertutsahakul said.
