Medtronic Philippines takes home coveted accolades at the Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards
The healthcare company is impacting communities by making innovative and cutting-edge procedures more accessible to the less fortunate
Medtronic Philippines Inc., a global leader in medical technology, services, and solutions is boldly addressing the most challenging health problems facing humanity, with innovations that transform lives. Driven by their mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life, Medtronic is also dedicated to contributing to human welfare.
Their recent initiatives, the provincial Endovascular Aneurysm Repair and Project Kalinga, a gift-giving Christmas Project of the Medtronic Philippines Christian Employee Resource Group (CERG), were recognized as Endovascular Product Innovation of the Year and ESG Program of the Year at the Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards.
Presented by Healthcare Asia, the Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards recognises MedTech companies that have risen above the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic to bring breakthrough, solutions, and initiatives for the betterment of communities in the Philippines.
Despite rife advancements in healthcare, access to life-saving treatments remain inaccessible to those living in the provinces. In the Philippines, patients residing outside the metro suffer long travel times, high accommodation fees, and other inconveniences tied to the unavailability of healthcare in their hometowns. It has become worse with the global pandemic, adding more costs and quarantine time to patients who urgently need medical treatment.
Focused on accessibility, affordability, and outcome, Medtronic Philippines has made their services available to provincial center hospitals.
Medtronic’s Aortic Therapies Team successfully performed the first abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery at Perpetual Succour Hospital (PSH) in Cebu City. Led by Dr. Jonald Lucero and Dr. Enrique Posas, they performed the Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) with Endosuture procedure on a 72-year-old man from Boho. This is the first time the EVAR with Endosuture procedure was performed in the Visayas islands.
Compared to the traditional open surgical repair of the abdominal aneurysm, EVAR is minimally invasive. With Endosuture, the occurrence of an endoleak is minimized, while the less invasive procedure shortens the number of days in the hospital and reduces complications.
Medtronic’s initiatives are a spark of hope amidst a global health crisis. The company not only brought innovation, but also kindness and compassion to the community raising over PHP 180,000 through Project Kalinga. This is what drives the company and their employees to do their best work.
