Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri awarded with two major accolades in Healthcare Asia Awards

It won CEO of the Year and Hospital of the Year – proving that it is a trailblazer in the industry.

Mandaya Royal Hospital (Mandaya) was built with the concept of prioritising an extraordinary experience for patients and their families and is supported by the latest medical technology such as nuclear medicine, and oncology medicine.

For its many achievements, Mandaya was given two major awards in the recently concluded Healthcare Asia Awards: the CEO of the Year and Hospital of the Year awards.

With its theme of Recognising Trailblazing Initiatives in the Healthcare Sector, the awards programme aims to honour hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare providers that have risen above the challenges and made a remarkable impact on their patients, most especially amidst the massive disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The combination of extraordinary experience, the latest medical technology and comfortable interior architecture has made Mandaya a hospital designated by the Indonesian Ministry of Health as a model and referral hospital for government hospitals.

Not only recognised by the Indonesian Ministry of Health and Tourism, but Mandaya Royal Hospital also received state visits from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Some of the projects that it has executed include the Romantic Couple Dining programme for Mandaya maternity patients, which is a romantic dinner between father and mother after giving birth.

The second project is to create an integrated Thyroid Clinic that helps patients get a diagnosis in one visit. This is made possible through its complete team of specialist doctors, endocrinologists, oncology surgeons, nuclear specialists, nutrition specialists, and anatomical pathology specialists.

The third project is a pride for Mandaya Royal Hospital, wherein it will present several restaurant and beverage outlets within the hospital area. These can range from Asian, Japanese, Western and Chinese cuisine, which makes it extraordinary. Patients can order from the room and directly enter the patient's billing details.

These initiatives would not be possible without the guidance and leadership of its CEO, Dr Ben Widaja.

Dr Ben Widaja, MBChB (UK) is the CEO/President Director of Mandaya Hospital Group which manages two hospitals, Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri and Mandaya Hospital Karawang, and currently oversees the greenfield development of another hospital, Mandaya Royal Hospital Antasari, Jakarta.

Having a 10-year of experience in both clinical medicine and healthcare management, Dr Ben Widaja is experienced not only in hospital management at strategic and operational aspects but also in the investment and development of greenfield hospitals.

Under the leadership of Dr Ben Widaja, Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri (MRHP) went from a team of fewer than 50 employees to more than 650 employees within a year.

Dr Widaja’s doctor recruitment strategies enabled MRHP to now have more than 160 Specialist and Subspecialist Clinicians, including several Professors, from more than 70 different specialities.

The development and delivery of Mandaya’s “Patient and Family Experience Concept” have been at the forefront of Dr Ben Widaja’s priorities.

Dr Widaja has played a pivotal role in the rapid growth and success of Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, which is considered way beyond the normal projected growth of a typical Indonesian Hospital.

In giving this award, the judging panel took into consideration three main achievements.

First is that it successfully led the development of MRHP from a greenfield project to a nationally renowned hospital with the best talents, including 160+ consultants from 60+ specialities, within one year.

It also achieved rapid growth in patient numbers and revenue, reaching EBITDA and net profit positive in 5 and 13 months of hospital operations.

Lastly, it also took into consideration that MRHP achieved multiple awards from different award-giving bodies, and was chosen as the best hospital destination by the government.
