Leading the way: Bangkok Hospital Pattaya excels with four wins at Healthcare Asia Awards

The hospital showed exceptional results and consistent delivery of patient outcomes across key metrics.

Private hospital Bangkok Hospital Pattaya (BPH) took home four major accolades at the coveted Healthcare Asia Awards for its outstanding performance and healthcare initiatives in the past year. The awards reflect BPH’s unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation in patient care.

At the heart of BPH's success lies its innovative implementation of a value-based care (VBC) strategy aimed at navigating the challenges posed by the “new normal.” This strategic approach integrates high-quality care, preventive measures, customer experience excellence, and cost-effectiveness through its ambitious “Mission-to-the-moon” campaign.

Under this strategy, BPH meticulously assesses patients using its Value Care Cycle Model, with a strong emphasis on awareness and preventive care. The hospital has also developed the Smart Health Risk Assessment System and a Patient Care Data Management System, prioritising patients in centres of excellence (COE) whilst systematically collecting and tracking patient outcome data.

The results of BPH's VBC strategy have been remarkable, with the hospital consistently delivering exceptional patient outcomes across key metrics and COEs. Notably, BPH achieved a remarkable 20.1% revenue growth in 2023, underscoring its financial success and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. The hospital's dedication to excellence has been further validated by its Level 1 Certification for patient-centred outcomes measurement from the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement.

With a strategic focus on value-based care strategy and the implementation of a cutting-edge digital data platform, BPH witnessed a remarkable surge in revenue, driving towards a new S-curve in 2023. This transformative journey not only signifies a paradigm shift in the hospital’s business trajectory but also underscores the efficacy of BPH's initiatives, garnering accolades such as the prestigious Value-Based Care Initiative of the Year - Thailand.

Moreover, BPH stands at the forefront of medical breakthroughs, notably pioneering mechanical thrombectomy (MT) since 2019 for large acute ischemic strokes, a groundbreaking endeavour that has revolutionised treatment accessibility and efficacy. This marks BPH as the first facility in Thailand’s Eastern region to offer such advanced care.

From 2019 to 2021, BPH successfully treated 18 patients for MT, eliminating delays and missed treatment opportunities, with consultations facilitated by an interventional neuroradiologist (INR) within an average of 30 minutes. Building upon this success, 2023 witnessed an exponential rise, with 253 patients consulting for MT, out of which 143 underwent the procedure within the hospital, significantly reducing referral times and enhancing patient outcomes.

Simultaneously, BPH has spearheaded the adoption of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) assessments for primary stroke prevention, utilising its innovative ASCVD Risk Estimator tool within the Brain Centre. Amidst Thailand's staggering stroke statistics, with approximately 1,880 cases per 100,000 people and stroke ranking as the second leading cause of death, BPH's proactive approach has been pivotal.

Analysis of patient data from 2019 to 2023 revealed hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, and heart arrhythmias as predominant stroke causes, underscoring the critical need for preventive measures. Additionally, the service access rate within 4.5 hours of symptom onset is less than 50%.

In alignment with its commitment to comprehensive care, BPH advocates for early intervention through carotid ultrasound assessments for individuals at intermediate to high-risk levels. As of 2023, 230 individuals have undergone the ASCVD assessment, with 16 cases undergoing carotid ultrasounds, leading to the detection of two abnormalities, a testament to BPH's dedication to preventive healthcare.

For the success of the MT and ASCVD assessment procedures, BPH brought home the Service Delivery Innovation Initiative of the Year - Thailand and the Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - Thailand category wins.

Achieving exceptional clinical outcomes
On the other hand, Bangkok Hospital Pattaya (BPH) has extended its exceptional care to the southern Pattaya area with the establishment of Jomtien Hospital (JTH) in 2022. This 60-bed facility has swiftly positioned itself as a “clean zone” for non-COVID care, ensuring seamless service continuity through a meticulous “warm-transfer” system with BPH.

JTH's dedication to community well-being is palpable through its array of initiatives since its inception. From offering free health check-ups and pre-employment screenings to conducting impactful training programmes across 19 communities, JTH has woven itself into the fabric of community resilience. Notably, the hospital has undertaken the crucial task of training patients, families, and nursing home staff in basic life support, empowering them to tackle emergencies effectively.

Harnessing the transformative potential of digital technology, JTH has embraced active social media engagement, amassing over 55,000 followers and disseminating invaluable healthcare content. Additionally, its digital consultation platform through Line OA has bridged the gap between patients and medical expertise, ensuring accessible healthcare delivery.

JTH's narrative transcends beyond healthcare excellence; it embodies dedication, adaptability, and a profound commitment to collective well-being. It stands as a testament to resilience, community engagement, and digital innovation, shaping a healthier future for all.

In recognition of its unwavering dedication to healthcare excellence and community trust, BPH, through the exceptional expertise of JTH, was awarded the esteemed Secondary Hospital of the Year - Thailand during the Healthcare Asia Awards programme.
