Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre’s unwavering commitment to community healthcare leads to award win at Healthcare Asia Awards 2023

Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre received the Most Improved Community Hospital award as it prioritises community healthcare and promotes sustainable development initiatives.

Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre (BTMC) is making waves in the healthcare industry, and for good reason. BTMC has been recognised as the Most Improved Community Hospital at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2023. The accolade recognises BTMC's steadfast commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services to the community despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

BTMC prioritises community healthcare and is a leading provider of multidisciplinary specialities, including Neuro and Spine Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Rehabilitation, Dermatology, and Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery. With MSQH Accreditation, BTMC ensures high-quality and safe healthcare, establishing itself as a trusted and distinguished healthcare provider in Klang.

What sets BTMC apart is its community-focused initiatives. The hospital's Care 4 Klang Food Bank, the Free Cataract Surgery programme, and the Safe Medication Disposal programme have garnered recognition and support from various sectors. These initiatives align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to ensure healthy lives, promote well-being at all ages, reduce inequality, and strengthen global partnerships for sustainable development.

"Winning the Most Improved Community Hospital award at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2023 is a testament to BTMC's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services and improving the lives of our community. Our remarkable initiatives have positively impacted countless individuals, underscoring our dedication to promoting social and environmental well-being. As a trailblazer in community-focused healthcare, we are proud to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for others, and we remain steadfast in our mission to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve," said Ms Jasmine Lau, BTMC's Chief Executive Officer with enthusiasm and pride.

The Care 4 Klang Food Bank is a commendable example of BTMC's community engagement, where doctors, hospital management, and community members joined forces to provide non-perishable food items and essential household items to those in need. This initiative helped countless individuals who were struggling to put food on the table during the lockdown period.

The Gift of Sight CSR programme, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Klang Central, offers free cataract surgeries to the B40 community, a low-income group in Malaysia. Since its launch in December 2020, 30 individuals have benefitted from this programme, and the hospital will continue to screen more patients in need.

In addition, BTMC launched the Unused or Expired Medication Disposal Campaign, the first of its kind in Klang. This initiative educates the public on safe and appropriate methods of disposing of unused and expired medications, helping to prevent contamination of the environment and public health hazards.

BTMC's efforts in 2021 and 2022 included flood relief aid, blood donation drives, free health screening, and first aid training for the local community. These programmes, including the donation of refurbished electronic devices to underserved communities, have positively impacted many lives in the Klang region.

"We are committed to enhancing the quality of life in the Klang community by not only providing healthcare services but also by positively impacting their lives. We take pride in our core value of 'Caring for our Community' and strive to make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve. As a devoted healthcare provider, we place the well-being of our community at the forefront and will continue to take every opportunity to support them," concluded Ms Jasmine Lau.
